One of the saddest days of the year...

At least that's how I feel about the day every fall when I take my boat to the place where I store it for the winter. Boy, I sure miss being out on a lake even when the fish don't cooperate. I got to thinking the other day of all the different people that have gone fishing with me in that old tub. Quite a few for sure and with every different person that I remembered, I recalled a story or two of being on a particular lake with that fellow fisherman. How come I can remember stuff like shearing a pin on the motor on Pelican Lake with Dave Kohls and John Fandrey some 20 years ago but I can't remember to get spaghetti sauce mix when I go to the store?

  1. I will always remember the tip we learned on one of those famous trips at Weasel and Betty's. The one about using soft shell crabs which cause you to have to chug beer to make room in the cooler for all the Jumbo Perch they help you catch.

  2. We went through Elcho on the way to Rhinelander a couple of weeks back. I told that same story about Weasel and Betty's to my wife. By the way she looked at me, I surmised that she had a lot of other questions about past fishing trips. Thankfully she let the subject drop so I didn't have to relate any more incriminating stories from my past! In the event that she had pressed me for more information, I would have tossed out a few stories about John Fandrey,
who she knows pretty well. He's like having an ace in the hole as far as stuff like this goes.
